2020-21 Calendar Revisions

Due to our August 24th school start date for secondary schools and the Sept. 8th start date for elementary schools, the Caroline County School Board approved the 2020-2021 proposed Calendar revisions on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the regular called school board meeting.  In order to meet VDOE core instructional time requirements CCPS added 5 days to the instructional calendar.  The School Board revised the calendar to make October 12, January 4, February 12, April 2, and May 26 all full school days.  This will satisfy both the Time-Based Requirements for K-12 schools as well as the Core Instructional Time Requirements defined by the Code of Virginia.

All Learning is Social & Emotional as we Return to Better

All Learning in CCPS is Social and Emotional. As we Return to Better, we know that Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) will be critical to re-engaging students, supporting adults, rebuilding relationships, and creating a foundation for academic success.

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored SEL as an essential part of high-quality education highlighting relationships, resiliency, and collective problem-solving as fundamental to academics and life.

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is transforming American education through social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing and using the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that help our youth:

·        To identify and regulate emotions

·        To develop positive relationships

·        To make responsible decisions

CASEL’s integrated framework promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence across classrooms, schools, homes, and communities.

We are excited to share the Caroline County Public School SEL logo with you and our website link below.
